600 years of history. A fight to save it.
Ashton Court Mansion is one of Bristol's most important heritage buildings — a Grade I listed property set within the beloved Ashton Court Estate in Long Ashton, just minutes from the city centre.
For over 600 years, the mansion has been at the heart of Bristol's story. From its medieval origins through Tudor expansion, Georgian refinement, and Victorian grandeur, the building reflects the ambitions, tastes, and civic spirit of the families who shaped it — and the city it overlooks.
Today, two-thirds of the mansion is derelict. While the estate is one of Bristol's most visited green spaces, the mansion itself has been closed to the public for years, its rooms deteriorating behind locked doors.
Bristol Heritage Building Trust (BHBT) is changing that. Formed with the specific mission of restoring Ashton Court Mansion, BHBT is bringing together heritage experts, community supporters, funders, and volunteers to begin the restoration that this extraordinary building deserves.
